10th November ’08 was a day that would change our lives for ever and introduced us to an unwelcome outcome to one woman’s struggle with Breast Cancer. Sadly on this date and after a short and dignified journey, Attracta enhanced Heaven’s Choir of Angels.
Shortly afterwards, by donating an electric bed in Attracta’s memory to the Oncology Unit in the Mater Hospital, Attracta’s husband Kevin and three sons Mark, Darren and Damien were to sow the seeds of what has now become: ‘The Attracta Doherty Pink n Gold Fund’
We are now firmly established, and our main thrust is to embrace Attracta’s philosophy in life by acknowledging:
‘There are many, who are worse off than ourselves – just look around’
Our newly formed committee has an exciting blend of youthful exuberance and, an experience in the more mature. (Date of birth withheld by some!)
Our primary aim in fundraising is to assist Cancer patients and their families, through funding our chosen charities and thus assist and complement them in the provision of patient care and comfort.
This is an area that is greatly under resourced and very reliant on donations from all.
A small effort on everyone’s behalf will certainly ensure that all the work of the personnel involved in cancer patient care and comfort is acknowledged in an encouraging way.
